Horticulture plays a vital role in improving the income and livelihoods of farmers. Through the production, processing and export opportunities of Vegetables, Fruits, Flowers, Spices, Plantation crops, medicinal and Aromatic crops, the GDP and overall economy of our country is also improving.
The soil and climatic condition of India and also in Tamil Nadu are best suited for cultivating most of the Horticultural crops throughout the year. It is essential to have a good understanding about the theoretical and practical knowledge on the cultivation aspects of these crops.
So our Institute is offering various horticultural courses as a part of Diploma Agriculture programme viz.
- Methods in Horticultural crops
- Vegetables and Fruit Culture
- Commercial Agriculture-1 (Nursery Technology)
- Floriculture, Medicinal plants, Spices and Plantation crops
Through theoretical knowledge is importanted in class room teaching along with field visits to farmers fields TNAU botanical garden, commercial nurseries, processing units, plantations at in and around Coimbatore, Kallar, Coonor, Ooty and Kothagiri.
Students are encouraged to true hands on training on various nursery techniques flower arrangements, bouquet preparation and garden making.
Students are provided with the opportunities to visit various agro-climatic zones and suitable crops during their Study Tour programme. State Horticultural Farms, Horticultural college and Research Institutes, Research stations in various districts etc., would be visited.
With the collaboration and financial assistance by NABARD, Department of Horticulture and ATMA Scheme of Department of Agriculture, need based seminars, workshops, trainings and Exposure visits to Farmers and students are organized for sensitizing various new technologies and for field based interventions.
We are training students to take part in various competitions in the field of Horticulture for Fruit and vegetable carrying, Flower arrangements, flowers decoration, Rangoli and also to prepare and display various exhibits and make presentations.
We are having an ornamental garden, Herbal garden, plant propagation structure and a vegetable garden. Adequate field facilities are there for students to cultivate and leans in field.
